Well I'm not a huge Halo fan but the first Halo and the first Half-Life had the best First-Person-Shooter storyline ever! Not a fan of the multiplayer but I will buy HAlo Reach to see what kind of story it is. Too bad they dont make Epic Long FPS stories anymore becuz they make more profit on the multiplayer but hopefully Halo Reach will be two-three disc. First one or two disc for the story and the third disc for multiplayer. PLEASE DON"T BE ANOTHER COD AND MAKE A SHORT FIVE HOUR SINGLE PLAYER! Man Halo would be a great movie if J.J.Abram (director of the latest Star Trek) directed the halo movie.

    Halo: Reach
Single player: bungie can make more a.i. in an area then before, hopefully leading to some epic moments again. Otherwise not much can be said as it isn't out yet.

Multiplayer: the equipment is back in the form of armour abilities, this is great, you spawn with an ability that recharges that will change the way the battle will work, because equipment wasn't that common in. Once again though I feel a hiccup, the elites and spartans aren't balanced. The guard-shotgun class by far outclassing the sword-evade class in close combat. In certain modes when you only start with a basic load out, evade is far superior to sprint, while stickies are mildly superior to frags. While I'm glad loadouts are avaliable to everyone and not user created, the fact that you can spawn with a grenade launcher, sword, or shotgun is unsettling, those are power weapons, how's an assault rifle or dmr supposed to compete with that?

Hopefully by the end of the beta the races are better balanced, and the loadouts changed in some ways. At least they're putting the game through its paces.

    Halo 3:
Single player: okay blurry ingame cut scenes with flashing images and voices in your head that feel like they accidentally fell out of a F.E.A.R. game? The brutes are now your only enemy, their a.i. improved, but still charastically stupid. The campaign jumps around a lot, but not many epic moments, or areas exist.

Multiplayer: Near perfected, the return of the assault rifle, combined with more weapons that all fit roles well, and feel unique makes this halo the best to date in this aspect. The forge and custom games creating a recreational setting that you can waste days in. The dual weilding is toned down to be less used, and the battle rifle is changed to be a weapon to grab if you want to give long ranged support, but generally not outright take people down. The addition of equipment is an often overlooked feature, adding another element to the 'what do I do next?' factor, the equipment is often an area-of-effect item that will change the way your battle will work, and make certain weapons more useful than others (ie shotgun in a bubble shield)

Halo 2: The campaign was more toned down than the first, with a level or two seemingly recycled (library again!?!?) it became mundane towards the end with the brutes replacing elites as your enemy. Their a.i. being sub-par. Though the game comes back near the end with a few epic scale vehicle missions.

Multiplayer: The weapons placements, and maps have been thuroughly designed. The weapon balances are worked out a bit better. However an unfortunate hiccup; the removal of the assault rifle. The smg promoted people to dual weild it, as in seeing you could simultaneously drop it and melee someone. The battle rifle keeping conflicts at too far a range for grenades to be effective. The grenade essentially lost its niche. Leaving just shooting, and sometimes melee attacks. This dulled the above mentioned thinking.

Bungie has been focusing massively on the multiplayer of the games as each sequal comes out, and progressively stopped putting as much effort into the single player campaign.

Halo CE: single player: There was a terrific unique style of gameplay, with fun enemies to fight, and highly definative weapons. Almost every single mission was rememorable such as the first flood encounter, the cartographer, the library, or the final warthog get-away. Multiplayer: The game had great multiplayer, and I remember it being very popular for LAN parties, the definative weapons, along with the unique 'brawl' style first person shooter that had it's surface scratched by unreal tournament really shined here. Another of its appeals was the ability to do multiple things next, do you throw a grenade? when do you jump? Do you just keep firing? Do you rush in for a melee? This added a level of thinking beyond player location, and quick reflexes to first person shooters.

what will become of Bungie studios without Halo

I am not a fan of Halo's story, the setting is great but from 2 onwards it became muddled - why develop the backstory of the enemies? I preferred the original which let the player see only glimpses of the bigger story. I do love the series though, I will never forget being at uni and setting up an epic lan battle. Or skipping college classes to co-op legendary difficulty

I've loved playing Halo ever since I tried out the first one in 2001. From the looks of it, Reach is gonna be one of the best yet.

Halo is probably like Super Mario of this generation and will have a similar legacy. My 11 year old cousin absolutely loves Halo games and everything Halo. He even has a collection of Master Chief action figures in his room. Seeing how most Halo fans are in their pre-teens, early teens I predict that Master Chief will be the same nostalgic character for them as Mario was for my generation.

Since November 21 2001 I have loved the franchise. The books, the games (i dislike Halo Wars though), the graphic novel, I love it all. Reach too is starting to get good love from me: the beta has surpassed my expectations. It´s good that Joseph Staten was brought to this feature. He is a Bungie hero on his own: writer of Contact Harvest, and one of the fathers of Halo: CE. Would've been nice to see other old school Bungie people though.

I remember seeing this at the macworld expo years ago. If apple had cared, not that they do now days, one bit about games they would have made a killing. they probably could have sold more mac with halo that with their ipods, ipads, or iphone.

Did anyone ever watch the preview video for Halo 1 BEFORE it came out and was still in early production? It looked TERRIBLE! It's funny to watch and be like WOW. If they would have released it at that time one of the best series of Video Games EVER would have never happened.

yes. Halo 1 such a good game. just the basic controls and look of it was so perfect for its time i love it. Halo 2 was a weird story for me but it completely opened the gates for Xbox live and Halo 3 was just a epic end to the trilogy story. never got WARS or ODST but Reach looks really good. thank you bungie and master chief

@Charlie_1979 You're completely wrong. I'm a hardcore RPG gamer, and I don't really care for FPS's. In saying that, I've never liked games, such as the "Medal of Honor" series. But, the thing Is, I've always loved Halo. The first Halo was Indeed, one of the best games ever created. And for a FPS, to actually have someone like me, a non FPS gamer, actually play the game!, and love It!... that Is a huge achievement.
All In all, the Halo series, as a whole, Is fantastic.

    [last lines of Halo]
[as you enter the Longsword Fighter]

    Cortana: We're cutting it close!

[Master Chief sits down, hits a few buttons]

    Master Chief: Here we go.

[the fighter launches, Halo explodes, the engines give a critical temperature warning]

Cortana: Shut them down, we'll need them later.
    [pause]
    Cortana: Fancy a look?

Master Chief: Did anyone else make it?

Cortana: Scanning... Just dust and echoes. We're the only ones left. We... did what we had to do, for Earth. An entire Covenant armada, obliterated, and the Flood...we had no choice... Halo. It's finished.

Master Chief: No, I think we're just getting started.

I bought the original xbox a week after playing halo for the first time at a mates place. I loved CE and joining up two xbox's over a couple of tv's and battling it out. Such good times. Halo 2 I only got to play campaign because we didnt have broadband for a while and Halo 3 was a riot coming in fresh for me. Im hoping Reach will not disappoint... so far the beta is fun but maybe the magic is a little bit lost for me...

I remember coming home from school, sprinting to my home so i can play the campaign and do different things every time, making legendary seem like easy lol. Me and my buddie always playing co-op passing it so many times we knew every level by memory down the point where we would pass level's stealthy and actually act as some sorta team using the melee as a "go go go" signal and peeking around corners giving each other cover from corner to corner.... man these memories. I really cherish halo for that reason, such a great game no matter what anyone says.

The Halo series is such a great series! I would have to say it's my favorite game series. I have had so much fun playing all the installments in the series and the countless hours played of Halo 3 multiplayer! Reach is gonna be great and the beta is awesome! It's sad to think that Reach will be the last game in the Halo series.

Surprising! In my opinion, Halo is popular just because it was the first big time Xbox game and with the online multiplayer, hyped so many people to play a FPS online.

Its just that, its hole story does not seems epic, no other the graphics, gameplay, its just a FPS like all the millions out there!!!
