27th of March 2010 saw an unprecedented phenomenon.

Around the world hundreds of millions of people, many 1000s of cities, 100s of landmarks, on all 7 continents, switched off their lights for 1 hour between 8.30pm and 9.30pm.

Such a simple act.

Yet a hugely powerful one.

In going dark, billions wanted our world leaders to see the light.

A special thank YOU

Needless to say that earth hour would be nothing without the participation of people like you. It is the sum of our individual efforts that make this such a powerful act.

To thank you for being a part of this, we prepared a special, limited edition Earth Hour "thank you" wallpaper.

Download it for your screen resolution:

What is Earth Hour?
It is the single, biggest, global call to action on climate change ever seen.

What does it involve?
Simply turning off your lights for 1 hour. Earth's hour.

How useful is this?
Earth Hour is a highly "visible" symbolic act.

One that millions of people can easily join in with.

And one that allows you to have fun while sending out a serious message to our politicians and governments, that says

"I care about my planet!"

So what happens now?

After the great switch-off, what now?

WWF will use this huge vote for the planet  to show politicians, governments and world leaders that we need the deals that will ensure a sustainable future for ourselves and the fantastic diversity of life that lives with us on this one planet of ours.

If you signed up for Earth Hour you may be asked to pull a plug, tick a box or send an email during the next 12 months to help us with our shared goals.

In particular, we will apply pressure in:
  • getting progress on Climate Change agreements
  • doubling the number of tigers in the wild
  • reducing humanity's footprint on this, our one and only planet.
And not only that, you yourself can also use Earth Hour to kick start your own personal campaign for a sustainable future

Didn't sign up to Earth Hour but want to be part of the movement that places pressure to achieve these goals?

You can still be counted and lend your weight... just add your name here...

When is the next Earth Hour?

Saturday March 26th, 2011

Earth Hour... it's about making your point... without the pain

Thanks for this initiative. Is only an hour without light, we can share with our family enjoying the stars or simply sharing stories and beautiful memories.
