NHL Trade

The first move of the NHL's free agent frenzy on Thursday involved not a signing, but a trade.

The Canadiens have traded Sergei Kostitsyn to the Nashville Predators for forward Dustin Boyd, goaltender Dan Ellis and future considerations. The deal also includes future considerations for the Predators.

The Canadiens ended any speculation about Benoit Pouliot's immediate future with the team when they signed him to a one-year deal worth $1.35 million yesterday.

The Montreal Canadiens have signed forward Tom Pyatt to a one-year contract.

When Canadiens general manager Pierre Gauthier is asked whether he has a Plan B or Plan C for the direction the team will take in the next two weeks, he says there aren¿t enough letters in the alphabet to cover the different scenarios.

The Canadiens created a minor stir in the National Hockey League draft last night as they made a trade to move up five places in the first round.

Canadiens GM Pierre Gauthier said he feels good about his team as he heads into tonight's NHL entry draft and the coming free-agent feeding frenzy.

Vancouver Canucks centre Henrik Sedin said he had to do a double-take when he heard himself introduced as the winner of the Hart Trophy, which goes to the most valuable player in the National Hockey League.
