Spending less does not have to mean sacrificing quality or style.

So, in the interest of saving money (while still looking fabulous), we're celebrating Brisbane's brilliant factory outlet stores. Now you can treat yourself or treat someone special and never pay full price again!

If you're a savvy shopper, we'd love to hear from you. Leave a comment and share your tips on how to save money and where to find a bargain in Brisbane.

Direct Factory Outlets

Direct Factory Outlets (or DFOs) are Brisbane's biggest outlet sale super stores.

Each DFO has 100s of individual retail factory outlet stores, all conveniently located under the one roof. And best of all, each individual store can offer up to 70% discount off normal retail prices.

Brisbane's two DFOs are open seven days a week (with only a few exceptions per year). See the DFO - Brisbane Airport shopping hours or the DFO - Jindalee shopping hours.

A food court operates in each outlet for those who want to make a day of it, and parents' rooms are also available.

DFO - Brisbane Airport

Brisbane's original DFO, located at 1 Airport Drive, Airport Village, is easy to access from either the Gateway Motorway or the East-West Arterial Road. And don't worry about parking because the centre has over 1500 carparks that are available and free. More information about DFO Brisbane Airport.

DFO - Jindalee

The DFO outlet at 16 Amazons Place, Jindalee, has over 900 free car parking spaces and you can expect to find amazing retail discounts (up to 70% off) in over 80 of their retail outlets.

Harbour Town, Gold Coast

Harbour Town at Biggera Waters is an hour's drive south of Brisbane, heading towards the Gold Coast. It offers big brand names at bargain prices.

You can spend a whole day or a few hours bargain hunting in the open-air style mall - and of course there are plenty of cafes and restaurants to keep your energy levels up. Check the Harbour Town shopping hours for more information about Harbour Town.

Trade Secret

Trade Secret is a factory outlet well worth a visit. It offers the latest looks and fashion essentials at up to 60% less than you would normally pay at other stores. Trade Secret prides itself on supplying only quality garments and doesn't stock seconds or samples. With new stock arriving daily, this is one outlet store well worth dropping into regularly.

Trade Secret has five locations across Brisbane: Alexandra Hills, Chermside, Macgregor, Oxley and Browns Plains.

Stones Corner, Brisbane

In its hey-day Stones Corner on Logan Road, between Woolloongabba and Coorparoo, was a bargain hunter's haven for brand-name factory outlets. With the birth of the DFO outlets, however, most of the retailers moved out.

When we visited Stones Corner in November 2009, there were only a couple of brand-name factory outlets left and, sadly, many of the stores were empty. There are still plenty of cheap stores and great cafes in the area, but it's no longer the place to go for factory outlet shopping.

We only have 3 days in Brisbane before heading up to Maroochydore. Is Harbourtown worth the trip from Brisbane or is there good bargains to be had in Brisbane?

Giulia from Brisbane says:

No harbourtown is not worth the visit, There's a lot of different stores around Fortitude Valley and DFO close to the airport or Trade Secret and Chermisde Westfield will keep you occupied for most of one day!!

Sue from Brisbane says:

No, don't bother if you've only got three days. Depending on where you are staying there are many choices. Stones Corner, mentioned on this page is not as good as it used to be due to some shops being empty at the moment as they are going to be knocked down and redeveloped. Having said this there are still some good shops there and it is very easy to get to from the city by bus.

While in Brissie you could go to the Southbank Markets - I like Friday evening best but it's also open during the day Saturday and Sunday or Riverside Markets on Sunday. Make sure you take a city Cat ride up and down the river. It's a very cheap and pleasant way of sight seeing. If you get a daily ticket you can ride the cat, ferries, buses and trains all day.

Thank you so much for your advice and sightseeing tips. We will definately check out the markets and the City Cat ride sounds like fun too. We will check out the inner city and the Malls suggested. Only 4 weeks to go, hopefully we manage to find a few great bargains to empty our wallets and fill our bags!!

Hi Lynda
I would also suggest the DFO outlets. The one by the airport is probably most handy for you.
Enjoy your trip.

We don't have all that long in Brisbane, what would be better or is there a difference, DFO near airport or Jindalee?

Margaret Bremner from Brisbane says:

Much as I like the DFO at Jindalee, it is smaller than the one at the airport and harder to get to if you don't have your own transport. I like Jindalee because I live in that direction.

Hey guys! Thanks for the info. Really helped me a lot as I'm going there with my family for around two weeks!
I'm looking forward to all the shopping-till-I-drop, but I'm worried about the prices. Is DFO really affordable?

Ray from Bris says:

"Affordable" is really something to be decided by the person spending the money ;) Personally DFO is not bad - I've managed to get clothing (jeans etc.) from there cheaper than what I paid in Malaysia, for example. It's worth a look in anycase, and even at a factory outlet there will be various sales on top of the discounted price. In Harbourtown for instance, the Nike outlet used to do a 1-hour special where prices really go down a lot from their regular factory outlet prices. (I'm not sure if this still happens, I am just using it as an example from what I've experienced.) Be very aware of the price of items of interest so you can do a comparison.

Cheryl from Adelaide says:

I'm from interstate, and I have to say I come up to Brisbane at least twice a year. Harbour town is a must each time I go to Brisbane, its huge and has brands and all sorts, after all its the biggest harbour town in Australia. DFO at the airport isn't too bad either and has quite a few stores too. Markets are more family type places and just for a good look. I've travelled Australia shopping at different places including markets and shopping centres and find Southbank although great for market type items there is perhaps more arty jewellery and street market type things as opposed to actual clothing, and its not usually very cheap anyway compared to some of the markets i've been to.

DFO Brisbane is good for the specials, Harbourtown is also good but need to really do the bargain hunting thing. Try Toombul Shopping Centre, 10 mins from DFO Brisbane, you can really pick up some great bargains there as well.
Good Luck Shopping

My sister is flying up to Brissie to spend my birthday with me on 28th Nov. Saturday. We'll spend the day & then come back up to the Coast after dinner. Can you recommend any good retro/vintage type markets trading on a saturday please? I thought we'd go to Punjabi Palace in the West end for dinner...anything fun there? Any suggestions welcome, thanks.

Larissa from BNE says:

Sallie, not sure if anyone came back to you, but the Valley Markets are probably what you're looking for:
Where: Cnr Brunswick Street and China Town Mall, Fortitude Valley
When: Every Saturday and Sunday
Times: Saturday 8am - 4pm and Sunday 8am - 5pm
West End has a couple of good Indian picks (probably a night-time venue in my opinion). The Lychee Loung @ 2/94 Boundary Street,
West End is good for a drink or two after dinner, &/or the Rooftop at The Fox Hotel, Corner of Hope & Melbourne St, South Brisbane is good for drinks, view.
Have a great weekend!

Leonie from Brisbane says:

Hi Rob,
There's some good surf factory outlets at DFO near the airports. But also, at Ashmore on the Gold Coast is the Billabong Factory outlet. It's address is Central Park Ave, Ashmore QLD 4214‎ - (07) 5564 5711. From memory there is also a Quicksilver and Voodoo Dolls Factory outlet store there also but haven't been there for a few years so not really sure!
Hope this helps!

Susan from Brisbane says:

Suzie, either DFO have some great places you can find formal wear. I prefer Jindalee though because it's not so crowded and easy to find a carpark as well as some really good shops. Check out both websites to check for retailers because they list all the shops so you can see which one might be best for you. Good luck.
