Promotional Mailers

There are many different options available for folding a promotional mailer. They can have parallel folds and right angle folds. Parallel folds run parallel to each other. Right angle folds are folded perpendicular to the previous fold. Promotional mailers generally consist of parallel folds but right angle folds can be used in addition to the parallel folds.

A score may be added to the mailer in the location of the fold to help it fold in the proper location. A score is used when the location of the fold is critical, when using heavier weight stock or when folding against the grain of the paper. The proper time to use a score is usually determined by the manufacturer.

A perforation is used on a fold where a panel needs to be detached from the mailer, such as on a reply card.

When the mailer is folded, the panels that are folded to the inside must be slightly smaller than the outside panels so that they do not interfere with the other folds. The panels on either edge can be smaller than the other panels if it is necessary for the design of the mailer. If the panel is a business reply card, it must meet the size requirements for business reply mail. See Postal Regulations - Business Reply Mail.

Note: The finished folded mailer and any reply mail piece must meet the minimum weight requirements set up by the USPS.
For details, see Postal Regulations.
