The Picks:

Big Nate In A Class By Himself - This title is based on the comic strip Big Nate and is written in the hybrid comic/prose style of the Diary of the Wimpy Kid series. Nate is in a class by himself. He’s working toward the Guinness Book of World Records for the most detentions, as he body slams the principal and insults his least favorite teacher Mrs. Godfrey, but Nate isn’t worried. He knows he will surpass it all. A fortune cookie told him so. Kids will love Nate and all the trouble he gets into. Parents and teachers can use the hybrid storytelling to get reluctant readers hooked.

Classics Illustrated Volume 10: Cyrano de Bergerac – If you’re looking for romance, drama and tragedy, then look no further than the classics! In this story from the 17th century, Cyrano de Bergerac is in love with his cousin Roxanne, but is unable to tell her. He believes no woman could love him with his large nose, despite him being a talented poet and musician. Instead he offers to help the handsome Christian de Neuvillette, whom Roxanne is enamored by. What follows is a tale of romance and heartbreak. This graphic adaptation by Peter David and Kyle Baker is a good way to show that classic stories can be just as exciting as the latest shojo manga.
