Vibrant, youthful and masculine, Sashikant Naidu's spring-summer collection for men is a promising line for the season.

EARTHY TONES: The collections presents subtle hues.
HANDLOOMS ARE the rage in men's fashion today. Breathable, contemporary and strong , the fabrics are a popular choice with designers for crafting trendy short kurtas and the longer ones as well.
After bringing out saris, Indo-Western and ethnic lines for women and silhouettes for men, designer Sashikant Naidu presents his largest collection by far in men's wear for his Essen's Spring Summer 2003 label. Sashikant works with exclusive handlooms sourced directly from the weavers, "so that the fabric is distinctive in terms of designs, yarns and dyes. I don't follow colour forecasts but opt for blue, white, shades of yellow, black and other tones that look good on men for the kurtas. Today, the client is looking for innovation and you should be able to deliver. Your design should be able to convince them," says Sashikant.

His new line of kurtas in varied lengths (Rs. 750-Rs. 1,500) in mercerised cotton, silk and khadi with an equal emphasis on styling and finish is going strong with NRI's and local clients as well, cutting across the age bracket.
The fabrics are apt for the season and chic - missed-check cotton, khadi with embroidery in self-thread, silk and cotton combined with lace, and crushed cotton highlighted with antique borders. The simple, structured cuts are enhanced with detailing on the shoulders and collars in self or with elegant metal embellishment on sleeves, shoulders and for buttons.

Some of the pieces that stand out in the collection are the short orange kurta with black prints teamed with a rattle chord, blue cotton kurta with woven effect for collar and shoulders, a very oriental shirt presenting embroidered panels and tie-ups and an elegant kurta in black and gold threads.

"The kurtas suit all occasions," he says. On the fashion scenario, "Hyderabad presents a satisfactory men's fashion scene. I would be retailing in other cities as well. For me fashion is about happiness that I derive in creating new lines. There is no compromise when it comes to clothes and I have been getting positive enquiries about my spring-summer collection," he says about his men's wear line for the season, which truly reads masculine.
