Three men were injured, including a 74-year-old whose life may be in danger, after a young man entered a restaurant in the Rosemont-La Petite Patrie borough Thursday morning and began stabbing people.
The 74-year-old man suffered an injury to his chest and is in critical condition. A 30-year-old man suffered minor injuries to his head and the third man, a 54-year-old, also suffered injuries to his head. The three men were taken to hospitals to be treated.
The man entered the small café-bistro at around 11:25 a.m. and stabbed the victims.
Shortly after police arrived, a 30-year-old man was arrested near the café-bistro, Au Derniers Humains, on St. Denis St., at the corner of Bélanger St.
“We don’t know what his motive was or why this happened. This is something we will have to determine during the course of the investigation,” said Montreal Police Constable Yannick Paradis.
He added that it appears the man might suffer from a mental health problem. The man was arrested to be questioned.
A representative from the restaurant said the injured men were not employees of Au Derniers Humains. He said two women who where working at the rrestaurant at the time had to be treated for shock and were sent home for the rest of the day.
