The Warmup

That ESPN is devoting an hour-long show to a 30-second announcement about where free agent NBA superstar LeBron James will sign isn't surprising. We've almost come to expect that in a world where reality shows have become reality. It was Team LeBron's idea, and they've lined up sponsors to ante up money that will go to charity. Why they've chosen the smarmy Jim Gray to do the quickie announcement "interview" is a mystery, though. No doubt this will work out better than ESPN's reality-show collaboration with disgraced slugger Barry Bonds a few years ago. That was a disaster.
