Quinoa: versatile superfood

Sisters Patricia Green and Carolyn Hemming had an early start on healthy eating. "When our mom would make homemade yogurt my sister and I would stamp our feet going, 'Why are we having homemade yogurt? Why can’t we have the yummy flavoured stuff that all the other kids eat?'" Hemming says.

Smoked Salmon Tartare on Cucumber Rounds

Smoked Salmon Tartare on Cucumber Rounds

Akis's recipe for simple Smoked Salmon Tartare on Cucumber Rounds, presents a significant spin on the classic dish beef tartare in which raw meat is chopped and mixed with tangy flavourings and displayed in patty-like form on a plate. The recipe is from his latest book, Everyone Can Cook for Celebrations. In this version, finely chopped smoked salmon replaces the beef. The tartare mixture is spooned on palate-refreshing slices of cucumber, making for a decedent appetizer.

The French Baker in Ottawa's ByWard Market makes macarons of various flavours, including raspberry, hazelnut, chocolate and pistachio.

Tasty macarons combine crunchy outside, chewy inside

In patisseries across France, delicate sandwich cookies in every colour of the rainbow take their place beside elegant eclairs, tarts and other works of pastry art. French macarons -- not to be confused with chewy coconut macaroons -- are tiny dome-shaped pastry shells filled with ganache, buttercream or fruit mixtures. They're gently crunchy on the outside and light as air and chewy inside.

Whether you're a Samantha or Miranda, there's an SATC2 cocktail for you

At the end of the first Sex and the City movie, Carrie, Samantha, Charlotte and Miranda rediscover the signature drink of their more youthful days: "Why did we ever stop drinking these?" Miranda wonders after taking a sip of the Cosmopolitans they made famous during the television series' six-year run from 1998 to 2004. "'Cause everyone else started," Carrie replies.

Butterflied spot prawns on the barbie

Enjoy the short season of spot prawns

A definition for the word delicacy is: something pleasing to eat that's considered rare or luxurious. That sounds like spot prawns to me. These succulent crustaceans are only available fresh from late spring to early summer, and I luxuriate every time I feast on them.
