 MAKE YOUR VOICE HEARD

"Most gamers may not realize it, but our art form is facing its most serious challenge to date. The US Supreme Court is reviewing a California law which, if upheld, would change the game industry as we know it. This law would make it a crime for retailers in California to sell games with mature content to minors. It would also introduce a new "18" label using a new and ambiguously defined ratings system despite the fact that all games are already clearly labeled by the ESRB.

Not only would this law abrogate game makers' constitutional rights it would have a chilling effect on the industry. And given the significance of this case, if the law is upheld, we can expect similar laws to follow in many other states. We could enter an era where games join other restricted items such as alcohol, tobacco and firearms.

If you believe that games deserve to be afforded the same constitutional protection as other media, if you believe that the government should stay out of parenting and if you believe that games are a legitimate art form, speak up! Write your representatives in Congress and tell them what you think. The easiest way to do this is to join the Video Game Voter's Network and with a few mouse clicks, make yourself heard.

Here is some great information which goes into more depth on what's happening." - Ted Price, CEO, Insomniac Games
