Family Chihuahua dies in the line of duty

Chihuahas may be minuscule but they have a big brave heart as one dog proved over the weekend. [Tip to Eye on Blogs]

Police say two pit bulls named Jade and Beast chewed a hole through the wooden fence of their owner's home and escaped, making their way to a Richmond apartment. There, they slipped through an open door. Resident Mayda Estrella, who was holding her newborn, confronted them in the bedroom and hit one dog with a remote control. But when her other child caught the attention of one of the pit bulls, a pint-sized protector stepped in. According to KGO:

Her 4-year-old son, Brian, jumped on his bed and as the other pit bull moved toward him, the family's Chihuahua -- named Manchas -- jumped in between the boy and the pit bull.

Estrella explained what happened next:

"And the dog just looked at Brian and just [took] the dog..."

Sadly, Mancha was found dead later. KGO's report (above) has more details.
