Man facing gun charges in SF gay pride shooting

A San Francisco man is facing two felony gun charges following a deadly shooting at a weekend gay pride event.

Prosecutors say 20-year-old Ed Perkins was charged Tuesday with possessing a concealed weapon and possessing a loaded weapon.

Perkins was initially arrested on suspicion of murder after 19-year-old Stephen Powell was fatally shot and two others were wounded at a street party in San Francisco's Castro district late Saturday. But prosecutors say the .357 revolver found on Perkins was not the weapon that killed Powell and witnesses could not place Perkins at the scene of the shooting.

Police do not suspect the incident was a hate crime.

Perkins is scheduled to be arraigned on the gun charges Wednesday morning.
