Wii finally managed to top the console hardware sales charts this week, pushing PS3 into second. Is this the work of Xenoblade?

As detailed today by Media Create, Wii lead the way last week in the console race with 20,588 units, a boost of about 2,000 over the prior week. PS3 saw a slight drop.

Wii wasn't the top selling system for the week, though. That honor went to PSP, although this week the DS family lead the way when adding up all three hardware variations. DS may see an additional boost in coming weeks following the system's June 19 price drop and new color release.

Here's the full hardware chart, covering June 7 through June 13. The prior week's sales are in parentheses.

  • 1. PSP: 21,662 (23,588)
  • 3. Wii: 20,588 (18,818)
  • 2. PS3: 17,676 (18,951)
  • 4. DSi LL: 11,138 (10,737)
  • 5. DSi: 10,172 (8,219)
  • 6. Xbox 360: 3,225 (3,258)
  • 7. DS Lite: 3,108 (1,743)
  • 8. PS2: 1,291 (1,316)
  • 9. PSP go: 718 (1,026)

Media Create also provided its usual set of software sales analysis for the week. You can see the software top 30 at this site's rankings page.

With 83,000 units, Xenoblade was the top selling game for the week. Media Create suggested that watchers be on the lookout for future sales trends, as the game has received high praise following its release.

The two versions of Grand Theft Auto IV Episodes From Liberty City teamed up for 73,000 unit sales. Media Create notes that unlike the rest of the world, Liberty City was not offered as download content here, meaning fans had to make a retail purchase.

Also notable in this week's software sales was Super Mario Galaxy 2. The game crossed the half million mark in its third week of sales. This is four weeks faster than the original Galaxy took to reach the mark.
