A Woodside man who said his wife shot herself to death has been arrested on suspicion of killing her, authorities said Friday.
Pooroushasb "Peter" Parineh, 64, was arrested Thursday on suspicion of murder in the slaying of his wife, Parima Parineh, 56, at their home on Fox Hill Road off Highway 84, San Mateo County sheriff's investigators said.
The suspect, a real estate broker, called 911 at 4 p.m. April 13, saying he had returned home to find that his wife had shot herself in a bedroom, said sheriff's Lt. Ray Lunny.
But Parima Parineh had been shot multiple times, Lunny said. Other evidence at the scene, and information that investigators later uncovered, persuaded the sheriff's office to arrest Peter Parineh, authorities said.
A motive for the slaying has not been disclosed, but county records show that the couple were behind on their property-tax payments for their $5 million, six-bedroom home that they shared with their two adult children.
A native of Iran, Parima Parineh moved to the United States when she was 22. She was an artist who specialized in portraits, pastels and sketches, according to an online biography.
Prosecutors will review the case against Peter Parineh on Monday to determine whether to file charges, said Steve Wagstaffe, chief deputy district attorney.
