Rebekah and Rich Wood gather neighbors wherever they go. Three years ago they sold their popular Frascati restaurant in San Francisco, a true neighborhood gem, and opened Wood Tavern in Oakland, near where they lived. It immediately captured the spirit of the area; it's now one of the hardest places to nab a reservation. With their personable presence, exceptional cocktails and comfortable surroundings, it's a winner. Chef Max Dimare is equally adept at keeping interest high on the food front. He pairs crispy pork belly with lentils, spinach and poached eggs, and adds sherried mushrooms to beef marrow bones.
Specialties: Pan-roasted chicken; grilled pork chop with smoked bacon and mushrooms; warm chocolate cake; apple-walnut crisp.
