Salads and light California-style food are is fine, but sometimes you just want a slab of meat. The best place to satisfy that craving is at this classic restaurant, which has been serving up prime rib since 1949. Owner Joe Betz is a meticulous restaurateur who is always renovating and touching up the handsome interior, which looks like an English men's club, complete with fireplaces in most dining rooms. The prime rib is baked in rock salt and carved tableside, and no matter what you order, the chef comes around to see if you want seconds. Each dinner comes with a salad tossed tableside in a spinning salad bowl, creamed spinach, mashed or baked potato, and Yorkshire pudding.

Specialties: Prime rib, English trifle for dessert.
