Region 6 - Pacific Northwest Region Seed Extractory
Region 6 Seed Extractory is a unit of the United States Forest Service located in Bend, Oregon.
The Seed Extractory was started in 1978 as part of the Bend Pine Nursery for extracting seed from 33 different species of conifers used for growing seedlings for reforesting National Forests of Oregon and Washington. The Extractory also manages a seed bank for five of the National Forests in the Pacific Northwest Region, many of the Bureau of Land Management western state districts and the Bureau of Indian Affairs.
In 1995, the Extractory began processing wild native diverse species seed, collected by the National Forests in Region 6. The Seed Extractory, to date, has processed seed from over 600 different native plant species collected by the Forest Service national forests and the Bureau of Land Management districts located throughout the western states.
