Judo

Derived from jujitsu, judo was created by Jigoro Kano in the 1880s and has remained a popular grappling art because of its effective techniques. It even became an Olympic sport in 1964. The grappling style is characterized by throws in which a practitioner uses his opponent’s body or uniform to take the fight to the ground. Once there, the practitioner uses chokes or joint locks to execute a submission. Because judo training emphasizes character development and morality, parents often enroll their children in this martial art.
