Chinese Goju

Like the Japanese word goju, which means hard (go) and soft (ju), Chinese goju may seem like a system of contradictions on the surface, but delve deeper and you’ll find a complete fighting style that combines the best elements of Chinese and Japanese martial arts. This fusion art melds the flowing circular hand movements of kung fu with the powerful linear attacks of goju-ryu karate, producing a system that’s soft and hard, yin and yang.

Because their art was created by veteran tournament champ Ron Van Clief, Chinese goju practitioners test and develop their skills through kumite (sparring). With an emphasis on targeting their opponents’ weak points, they use open-palm techniques for striking and blocking.
