Tang Soo Do

Translated as "way of the empty hand" or "way of the Tang (dynasty) hand," tang soo do is one of Korea’s oldest martial arts and has roots that stretch far back in time. Resurrected by Hwang Kee in the early 20th century, the martial art focuses on full-power striking with the hands, feet, elbows and knees. Forms play a central role in a student’s training, as do self-defense drills and controlled sparring.

An essential part of tang soo do’s appeal is its focus on tradition. Young students are taught to respect their seniors and endure the physical discomforts of rigorous training. These ordeals build character and discipline, which are essential attributes for success in life.
