WASHINGTON, March 2 (UPI) -- Grandfathers are obsessed with time. Not time to do all the things we want to do: Go back to Russia and see old friends, write a novel outside a Paris cafe, learn to sail a sloop, get an 18-year-old Japanese woman to walk on my back -- there will never be enough time for that.
(Editor's note: Sometimes it's hard to tell whether you're tackling parenthood in the 21st century -- or being tackled by it. This is the latest in a series of reflections by UPI writers.)
SKOKIE, Ill., Feb. 10 (UPI) -- Helicopter Moms: Shameless bribery works
LOS ANGELES, Feb. 10 (UPI) -- My son and I are collaborating on a song. That might be strictly local news everywhere else but to me it's one of the top stories of the week.
ST. PAUL, Minn., Feb. 9 (UPI) -- I generally agree with poet Kahlil Gibran's poetic treatise "On Children," about how they are the "sons and daughters of Life's longing for itself."
VALENCIA, Calif., Feb. 4 (UPI) -- The thing about changing the formula of the mother's milk is knowing what to change and what not to change
LOS ANGELES, Feb. 3 (UPI) -- It's February, and probably not a bad time for a progress report on the two goals I set for 2010 -- to step up my songwriting output and to get to the gym regularly.
BALTIMORE, Feb. 1 (UPI) -- Someday, he'll ask about her, the woman in the photo with the straight black hair, those enchanting hazelnut eyes, the face worn well beyond her 25 years.
FLAGSTAFF, Ariz., Jan. 28 (UPI) -- I am not really sure when I went from being the cool mom to the uncoolest person in the history of parenthood.
LOS ANGELES, Jan. 27 (UPI) -- It's still January but my thoughts right about now are of spring -- actually, spring has been on my mind pretty much since New Year's Day.
SKOKIE, Ill., Jan. 26 (UPI) -- I've been ROFLMAO ever since my son and his friends discovered texting.
NEWTON, N.J., Jan. 21 (UPI) -- When my 8-year-old son announced last summer he wanted to grow his normally short, neat hair out, I was fine with the notion.
LOS ANGELES, Jan. 20 (UPI) -- Playing music every other week at The Rose & Crown allows me to indulge in two pastimes I'd put on hold while the kids were small -- the music (of course) and passing a pleasant hour with grownups at an amiable gathering place.
CHICAGO, Jan. 19 (UPI) -- I'm hoping my children's early travel experiences create memories that help them develop a broader view of the world than I had.
SKOKIE, Ill., Jan. 14 (UPI) -- I dreaded the annual all-day pilgrimage to Six Flags -- or as it's known to most of us, Great America, our local huge theme park.
