Activity for the period August 1 - August 7, 2005:

The realtime computer system detected and located five small earthquakes in the vicinity of Long Valley caldera since the last update at 9:50 AM on July 31st. All had magnitudes M<2. Four were located in the Sierra Nevada south of the caldera and one was located beneath the southern margin of the caldera just west of Lake Crowley.

The realtime computer system detected and located five small earthquakes in the vicinity of Long Valley caldera since the last update at 9:30 AM on August 2. The largest was a M=2.4 earthquake beneath Round Valley at 5:07 AM on the 1st. The remaining four were located in the Sierra Nevada south of the caldera. The largest of these was a M=2.3 earthquake at 5:47 AM also on the 2nd.

The realtime computer system detected and located nine small earthquakes in the vicinity of Long Valley caldera since the last update at 9:00 AM on August 2. All were located in the Sierra Nevada south of the caldera. The largest was a magnitude M=1.9 earthquake at 3:31 PM on the 2nd located 8 miles WSW of Tom's Place.

The realtime computer system detected and located seven small earthquakes in the vicinity of Long Valley caldera since the last update at 8:10 AM on August 3. All were located in the Sierra Nevada south of the caldera, and all had magnitudes less than M=2.0.

The realtime computer system detected and located four small earthquakes in the vicinity of Long Valley caldera since the last update at 8:10 AM on August 4. All were located in the Sierra Nevada south of the caldera and all had magnutudes less than M=2.0.

The realtime computer system detected and located eight small earthquakes in the vicinity of Long Valley caldera since the last update at 8:40 AM on the 5th. Six of these were located in the Sierra Nevada south of the caldera. The largest was a M=2.0 at 8:10 PM on the 5th located in the Pioneer Basin area (9 miles WSW of Tom's Place). The remaining two were located beneath the west flank of Mammoth Mountain some 5 miles west of Mammoth Lakes. The realtime computer system detected and located five small earthquakes in the vicinity of Long Valley caldera since the last update at 9:30 AM on the 6th. Three of these were in the Sierra Nevada south of the caldera; the largest was a M=2.4 earthquake at 1:45 AM on the 7th located 1 mile SE of McGee Mountain (6 miles west of Tom's Place). Two were located beneath the west flank of Mammoth Mountain. The largest of these was a M=1.3 earthquake at 2:01 PM on the 6th. The Mammoth Mountain activity over the past couple of days included a number of additional earthquakes too small (M<1) to be located by the automatic system.
