History Of The San Francisco Chronicle

A Bay Area Institution
Chronicle Building, 1924

Since January 1865, the San Francisco Chronicle has faithfully and often passionately recorded the great events, famous figures, and quirky characters that have shaped the Bay Area, the nation, and the world. For much of its 140 year history, the paper has been headquartered in the very heart of The City, in the Chronicle Building at Fifth and Mission (seen here in a 1924 photo). Read more of the history of The Voice of the West here.
