Preakness Odds

Preakness odds are on Super Saver, the Kentucky Derby winner, to take the Preakness Stakes at Pimlico on Saturday, March 15th. Super Saver, the 3 year old colt owned by WinStar Farms and trained by Todd A. Pletcher, won the first race of three on the road to the Triple Crown. Only eleven horses have won all three races, with Affirmed being the last in 1978. There is a very good analysis on the contenders as well as the Preakness odds at SBRForum.com

The 2010 Kentucky Derby winner will defend his position this coming weekend in the second race of the elusive Triple Crown. The Preakness, the second and shortest leg of the series, takes place at Pimlico Race Course in Baltimore, Maryland.

A $1M purse is at stake for Super Saver and the twelve other Triple Crown spoilers. The thirteen horses will run 1-3/16 miles for the Black-Eyed Susans, the state flower of Maryland.

With Kentucky Derby superstar jockey Calvin Borel, Super Saver will attempt to win the 135th Preakness Stakes, on their way to the coveted Triple Crown. Borel won his third Derby in four years and gave trainer Todd Pletcher his first Kentucky Derby victory in 25 attempts (24 different horses) winning in 2:02 2/5. When asked about Super Saver preparing for Preakness, Todd Pletcher mentioned: "His energy level has been great, his appetite has been really good, he’s been really enthusiastic and we really like the way he’s been training. So we’re real pleased. We’re going to give him a breeze on Monday (May 10); we’re not looking for much. . .he’ll ship to Pimlico on Wednesday (May 12). Calvin (Borel) will be up for the breeze and most likely he’ll go right after the (renovation) break at 8:30 a.m. (EDT). Calvin is a very talented rider and he’s worked a lot of horses and he’s very good at it. He worked him perfectly before the Derby. It’ll give him a little feel as to how the horse is doing. Any time you can get to know him a little better it might pay dividends in the race."
