Bigelow Aerospace is hiring astronauts. But before you break out your phasers and homemade space suits, there's a catch - you'll have to have completed a government or recognized space agency training program.

"Specialized training and/or experience (ie: Medical, Payload Specialist, EVA, Pilot, etc.) is not a prerequisite, but is definitely a plus," the company’s Web site states in a listing that is among 44 other job openings the company is looking to fill.

The position would include work on the ground, training new astronauts and operating mission control, as well as in space.

Flight missions to the "final frontier" would include transporting people and equipment to Bigelow Aerospace's planned low Earth orbit space complex.

In space, astronauts would help maintain the station, which could include "some EVA" missions, the site states.

The hiring comes as NASA prepares to retire their shuttle fleet, which could mean many of its trained astronauts will need to look to the private sector for job opportunities.
