Common thread of sustainable design practices unite the ASID Award recipients

WASHINGTON, D.C. (April 12, 2010) — The American Society of Interior Designers (ASID) has announced the six recipients of the annual ASID Awards. The awards honor the lifetime achievements of individuals and companies in the field of interior design. Sustainability was a common theme among every award winner. They are: ASID Designer of Distinction Award: Kirsten Childs, ASID, LEED AP – The highest honor that ASID bestows on one of its members, Childs is being recognized for her lifetime of contributions to the profession of interior design and to the field of sustainable design. As a member of the ASID Sustainable Design Council and LEED for Commercial Interiors, Childs has been an integral part of the growth of sustainable design.
ASID Design for Humanity Award: Ray Anderson – An honor reserved for a humanitarian that has made significant contributions to the Society, Anderson is being recognized for his role in transforming the flooring industry. The forward-looking sustainable manufacturing practices Anderson implemented at Interface Inc., Industry Partner of ASID, have set a new standard for the industry. He is recognized as a trusted source in the field and continues to shape the industry through speaking engagements that are both relatable and compelling.
ASID Educator of Distinction Award: The Council for Interior Design Accreditation (CIDA) – Presented to an educator or institution that has made significant contributions to design education, CIDA is being recognized for setting an educational foundation for the profession. With their evolving set of standards and significant role in ensuring that the body of knowledge supports the industry, CIDA continues to be a driving force for the profession.
ASID Patron’s Prize: General Services Administration (GSA) – An award that recognizes those who support and promote quality interior design, GSA is being honored for their history of embracing the power of interior design. GSA is known as a national leader in supporting sustainable design for being an early adopter of LEED and a key component in the 2030 coalition. GSA was also on the forefront of acknowledging the connection between quality interiors and healthy occupants.
ASID Product Prize – Corporate: Autodesk – A prize presented to a company whose products and philosophy have contributed to the advancement of design, Autodesk is being honored for their suite of design software that has changed the interior design process. Through integrating all design professionals in a systematic thinking process while assisting the creative process, Autodesk has revolutionized the industry.
ASID Product Prize – Individual: Mogens Smed – Presented to an individual whose products or philosophy has contributed to the advancement of design, Smed is being honored for being an international leader in socially conscious and contemporary workspaces. His flexible and reusable products eliminate waste while offering customizable design aesthetics. Doing it Right This Time (DIRTT), combined with ICE, have set new standards for the industry, and provided the choice to create manufacturing centers located near supplies make Smed’s products even more sustainable.
ASID Award winners will be recognized at Celebration during ASID at NeoCon, an awards ceremony from 5:30 – 7:30 p.m. on June 14 at the LaSalle Power Company in Chicago. RSVP required at www.asidatneocon.com.
