Can't wait for next week's podcast, the talk about Prison Break: The Conspiracy (if it's important enough at all), should be very interesting

The show needs more Tom Mc Shea. While I understand he has been on the show for like, the past 8months non-stop, I feel the McShea-volume of the Hotspot could be increased. My suggestion is randomly adding parts edited out of older shows to new shows!

Thx for a great podcast anyway.

Gears 1's multiplayer was awesome; my favorite multiplayer this generation. Gears 2's multiplayer was horribly imbalanced and downright random; the biggest disappointment for me of this generation.

    @Polybren
on the topic of preserving older games did you know that they recently released a commadore 64 app for the iphone which allows you to play some c64 games for free and then purchase others?

in that case Tom mcshae has some taste and he is 200 EXP points closer to levleing up past console noob and 90 million points away from the elusive "So game hard he Sleeps with hot vegas babes under his PC desk at quakecon level and still pwns noobs". that many try to obtain.

@Sonicgod, I don't like Gears of War multiplayer at all. I'm not sure where you got that idea.

  • Sonicgod

    Posted Apr 8, 2010 9:15 am PT

Tom mcshaae is a console noob who does not even know that "Hordemode" from gears of war 2 has been around since 2003/ when unreal tournement 2004 was doing it and it is not that new it is epics old stuff the vomited back up on gears of war. and that is fitting since gears of war sucked and was already a vomited back up kill.switch.

but unlike gears of war 2 unreal tournement is good and he can not seem to notice how much gear of war multiplayer sucks so anything he says is already invalid since he enjoys .that sucky rip off of one of unreal series great modes.

But then again i hate most final fantasy crap now anyway the series has sucked since final fantasy 7 i have no idea why I keep buying there junk. Somebody should launch the makers of final fantasy 7 and 8 into space with space shuttle and half way through there trip to mars shove them out an air lock.for that insult to Rpgs. And do it twice for bringing that crap out on PC and again on PSN tainting them with the final fnatsy 7 and final fantasy 8 filth.

(Also i have not listened to this episode yet and have no idea what Tom Mcshae was even talking about. but I know his record. I also find him to be hilarious in a subservient kind of way and if he was for sale I would buy him to be my slave.)

@stubbies1 I think both approaches are fine, but what I'd like to see preserved is the original game in as close to the original way people experienced it as possible. Otherwise it would be like film historians looking at the Special Edition Star Wars as the original. The Special Editions might have helped expose more people (specifically younger people) to those films, but I think it's more important to give people access to the originals. That way they can properly slot the game into the cultural context of the time. Rocky IV only works because it's a product of the '80s. If it were released today, or in the '30s, or in the mid-'90s, it wouldn't resonate with people in the same way.

@stubbies1, Final Fantasy II should be banished from the Earth and it's creators' memories purged lest they repeat their grievances. Other than that, older games should just be readily available on download services. Everyone wins!

@Polybren I think it was you that mentioned that game companies need to do a better job of allowning access to their older games to a newer generation.
With this in mind i was wondering what you thought about the MANY remakes/updates of the original Final Fantasy games(1 & 2 specificly).
Do you feel that releasing them fairly regularly so that they are available in a number of forms within every generation of consoles without really changing allows newer gamers to experience them to their fullest, or do you believe that sporadicly releasing them with farly significant upgrades (i.e. FF IV on the DS) keep enough the same while adding enough new to keep them interesting is the best way to expose newer gamers to these games.

I totally agree with kevin vanord the game room service is just plain broken, i own 11 of the titles and have rented another one several times. when i rented the game the first time i never got my medals for it making the rent pointless as i had tokens that could have bought me an extended bonus play.
on other games i spent ages practicing a game and beating my top score only for it too not count, this needs fixed.

if i had two recommendations for the game room, finalizer and shao'lins road and as for the intellivision the controls are much too fiddly

I'm happy you guys touched on Settlers 7. I'm really interested in buying it but the DRM completely puts me off. I guess I'll not buy it then. Honestly, what was Ubisoft thinking... :S

When I bought Machinarium (the retail version) , I only had to install it on my PC and I was done with the disc. I don't need the disc to play, I didn't need to put in any serial code, or deal with any DRM. No hassle whatsoever. Just that fact alone makes me happy I bought the retail version, and I wish more publishers would realise that consumer comfort is very important.

@ McShea: I like Beyond Good and Evil (and Psychonauts) a lot too (I haven't played Dead Space Extraction yet) but there's a reason you don't remember Segundo: watch this clip from 0:40 to 1:45 (he says his worst line at the 1:40-mark) and tell me he's not a stereogripe. If you think he's a great character, that's fine, but he makes me cringe.

And yay for the flawless pronunciation of my weird European name Brendan! You officially speak Flemish
