Enabling high definition services on digital terrestrial television
This work takes forward the UK Government’s Order and the policy set out our Statement (published in April 2008) to enable new services on digital terrestrial television (DTT) in the UK through the upgrade of one multiplex (Multiplex B operated by the BBC) to the new DVB-T2 and MPEG-4 technical standards.
We expect Multiplex B will have capacity for up to four HD services (three services at launch) and that the new services will be introduced regionally (at or after digital switchover), commencing in late 2009 or early 2010.
The decision to award capacity for the first HD slots has now been made. More information on this decision can be found here http://www.ofcom.org.uk/radiocomms/digital/hd_on_dtt/ita/
