What do I need to get started?
For most users, you can simply click on one of the links at left or anywhere you see the
icon on our site and follow your web browser's instructions to subscribe to the feed, add it to your bookmarks or to your personalized Google, Yahoo or Microsoft Live pages. Alternatively, you can also copy the RSS address by right-clicking on the link and choosing "Copy link location," then use this address to add the feed to your personalized Google, Yahoo or Live page.
What if clicking the link gives me a bunch of code?
If your browser does not support RSS feeds, you can download a newsreader. There are many different types of RSS readers. Many of the programs are free and can be found by Googling RSS readers. Right-click on the RSS feed you want and choose "Copy link location" and then use this address to subscribe to the feed in your RSS reader.
Here is a list of some of the more popular RSS/Atom readers:
Firefox
Free, full-featured browser with a built-in newsreader. Secure, flexible and very easy to use.
Internet Explorer
Microsoft's free browser also supports RSS feeds from a simple toolbar button.
Feedreader
Free, desktop download for Windows. Easy, streamlined.
NetNewsWire
For Macintosh, this desktop program has a free Lite version and a feature-rich for-free upgrade.
Sage
Sage is a lightweight RSS and Atom feed aggregator extension for Mozilla Firefox. It's got a lot of what you need and not much of what you don't.
Safari for Mac OS X
Safari RSS lets you view multiple news feeds together in a simple list. Supports RSS 0.9, RSS 1, RSS 2 and Atom.
Twitter
RSS feeds are available for all Twitter accounts - look for the orange RSS icon on the right side of most Twitter pages. A select list for Star accounts is below. And click here for an anotated list of Toronto Star Twitter accounts.
