WILKES-BARRE – Hundreds of folks who turned Irish for the day (if they weren’t already) lined South Main Street and Public Square on Sunday to experience the sights and sounds of the city’s annual St. Patrick’s Day Parade.
The drone of bagpipes, the wail of fire engine sirens and the brassy melodies and rhythmic beat of marching bands were met with applause and cheers from spectators of all ages. The excited squeals of children scrambling for candy tossed from moving vehicles and decorated were commonplace.
The two-hour-long procession had seven divisions consisting of 165 different bands, businesses, organizations, agencies, groups of officials and local celebrities.

WILKES-BARRE – Wilkes-Barre Area School Board member Lynn Evans made what, in the age of school wellness policies, seemed like an obvious suggestion: Consider removing soda from vending machines accessed by students, providing healthier alternatives with less refined sugar.
LARKSVILLE – Easter is less than a month away and High Point Baptist Church of Larksville is gearing up for its 13th annual Passion play.
SALEM TOWNSHIP – A crowd of around 20 spectators gathered Sunday afternoon to partake in the second annual history of St. Patrick’s Day presentation at the PPL Susquehanna Riverlands Environmental Preserve.
HANOVER TWP. – Luzerne County is seeking bids for a new computerized 911 dispatch system expected to shorten response times and give emergency responders access to more critical information.
