Men’s basketball defeats Pepperdine and San Francisco before being eliminated by Gonzaga in semis

LAS VEGAS – The fifth-seeded men’s basketball team advanced to the WCC Tournament semifinals this weekend, but fell flat against the No. 1 seed Gonzaga Bulldogs last night, losing 77-62. The Lions defeated Pepperdine and University of San Francisco in the first two rounds of play. In the team’s matchup with Gonzaga, sophomore Drew Viney led the Lions with 15 points, while junior Vernon Teel contributed 14 of his own. The Bulldogs, who were playing in their first game of the tournament, came out on the court with something to prove, having lost to LMU just two weekends ago. Gonzaga shot an impressive 57.1 percent from the field in the first half, and senior Steven Gray led them with 14 first half points. The Lions, on the other hand, struggled from the floor, connecting on only eight of their 25 attempts for 32 percent. LMU had zero assists and eight turnovers in the first half. Full story
