In Your Community

Photograph Supervisory Special Agent Brett Hovington What can the FBI do for local communities? Many things. We invite you to learn about our community partnerships, our citizens' academies, and our mentoring programs for kids. We hope you enjoy our local stories and use our resources to be "crime smart." We know that our success against crime and terrorism only happens with your support and understanding, and we are proud to serve you.

During National Red Ribbon Week in October 2009, our Richmond FBI Office—and Community Outreach Specialist Dee Rybiski—worked alongside members of the Richmond FBI Citizens’ Academy Alumni Board to distribute more than 600 red tulip bulbs to a number of schools in the area. The first National Red Ribbon Week was proclaimed by Congress in 1988 on the heels of the death of DEA Agent Enrique Camarena, kidnapped and murdered by Mexican drug traffickers in 1985. Today, the Red Ribbon campaign works to raise awareness of the dangers of alcohol, tobacco and other drugs, and encourages prevention, early intervention, and treatment services.
