Police seize violent games in shooting investigation

Acting on advice of Jack Thompson, sheriff's deputies search home of suspected Louisiana killer and confiscate M-rated games.

Last week, sheriff's deputies conducting an investigation into the murder of a 55-year-old Louisiana man seized a number of games rated M for Mature from the home of a 16-year-old suspect, according to a report in the Baton Rouge paper The Advocate. The action was taken at the suggestion of controversial Florida attorney Jack Thompson.

Thompson told The Advocate that he suggested the sheriffs look for violent games in the youth's house because he felt the killings mirrored a scenario from Grand Theft Auto. The original reports indicated that the victim was beaten to death and shot in the face by the 16-year-old and a 17-year-old accomplice.

"Nobody shoots anybody in the face unless you're a hit man or a video gamer," Thompson told the paper.

While the police did seize the games, it's unclear exactly what role they will play in the investigation. West Feliciana Parish Sheriff's Captain Spence Dilworth told the paper, "I think it goes beyond video games, but who's to say?"

Games don't make people kill people, stupid people kill people and then blames game for killing person for murder and makes hilariously stupid comment about death. Lets see you say that five times fast Thompson.

"Nobody shoots anybody in the face unless you're a hit man or a video gamer,"

Oh god that made me laugh. So now some little fat kid with a Wii will try and fly like in SMG over a cliff screaming "here we go" and the new phrase will be,

"Nobody tries to fly unless you're a Psycho or a video gamer,"

"[Jack] felt the killings mirrored a scenario from Grand Theft Auto"

This implies that he has, in fact, played GTA himself-- otherwise how could he have witnessed any such scenario?
Given that information, I think Jack Thompson should turn himself into the authorities before Rockstar's inexorable poison finds its way into his cerebellum and drives him on a killing spree.

"I think it goes beyond video games, but who's to say?"

I get the feeling this translates as
"I think Jack is full of it, but don't listen to me, I'm just a cop who spends his life tracking REAL criminals."

Not like the police would know anything about criminal psychology, right?

"Nobody shoots anybody in the face unless you're a hit man or a video gamer"

For one, isn't equating a contract killer to a person who enjoys video games just a teensy bit... Ridiculous? That's like saying "No one plots murders except psychopaths and mystery novelists"
Note he doesn't even specify "violent video games": Evidently Mariokart is making killers of us all.

Second point: Shooting someone in the face in a video game is rather rare, as it is somewhat difficult. This exact behavior, however, has been modeled in mob movies for nearly a hundred years, thus producing the term "mob execution-style".

How typical. I just know the two kids will say it was the fault of games they played so they can shirk the responsibility.

I've been playing games since I was 7, and I don't know about you, but I haven't shot anyone in the face.

Video Games dont kill people or promote violence to reality its just that stupid people do all of that so dont blame the game. Video games are not the result of a stupid person the result of a stupid person is that person himself. If they have a problem with violent video games dont blame the game or the kid blame the dumb ass parents.

"Nobody shoots anybody in the face unless you're a hitman or a video gamer" - This quote is even funnier if you read it at 2:30 in the morning.

btw, methinks hitmen know better and less messy ways to kill people than shootin' em in the face, y'know?

This looked like something from GTA because he was "beaten to death and shot in the face"? Somehow, I believe killers are creative enough to think of ways to kill people without games. Oh, and has it ever occured to those idiots that violent people are playing violent games, because they are violent and are not violent because they are playing the games. If I were a homicidial psycho, sure, I would be playing GTA because it's a bit less dangerous than killing real people. But that doesn't mean anyone owning a GTA game is a homicidial psycho, does it? Jack should really go back to high school and learn some math and the art of which conclusions you can make out of which facts.
