Weather Alert: Winter Storm Warning, up to 12 inches of snow in forecast

A winter storm warning has been issued for Luzerne, Lackawanna and Wyoming counties from 4 a.m. Thursday to 7 a.m. Friday for snow accumulations of up to 12 inches, according to the National Weather Service in Binghamton, N.Y.

A winter storm watch has been canceled for those counties but remains in affect for the counties of Columbia, Sullivan, Carbon and Schuylkill.

A winter storm will develop off the mid-Atlantic coast Wednesday night and intensify on Thursday. As it moves north along the coast line, heavy snow will begin falling across Northeastern Pennsylvania.

Posted 9:54 a.m.

A winter storm watch is issued for Luzerne and surrounding counties from late Wednesday night through Friday night for the possibility of up to 12 inches or more of snow, according to the National Weather Service in Binghamton, N.Y.

A powerful winter storm is expected to impact the region late tonight into Friday. A period of heavy snow is possible with strong gusty winds on Thursday and Thursday night.

Storm totals of 12 inches or more are possible through Friday night.

Gusty winds will lead to significant blowing and drifting creating white out conditions and possible power outages as the snow should be heavy and wet.

What's with the milk and eggs issue. No one gets stranded for more than a day anymore, these are modern times and our grandmothers who used to do this still havew a hard time understanding. So i guess the tradition continues, because that's all it is. Running to the grocery store, really!

How is this snow season "unbelievable"? Aside from tomorrow's event, I can only recall one other major snowfall, from 2 weeks ago. It's NEPA. It snows here.

I know how you all love to pick on those ie the elderly who run out to stock up before a storm. But did you ever ask them why? Well I did and guess why they do it? It is not because of the roads being not cleared. It is the lousy jobs that are done to clear parking lots and sidewalks. They are and with good reason afraid of falling. And one must remember, it is not easy from them to recover from a fall and sometimes they don't.
