Freedom fabric

Snazzy capris, colourful shirts, trendy kurtis and kurtas in khadi... Check them out at Fabindia's exhibition till August 10.

ALONG WITH national pride and the weaver's skills woven into its rough-hewn surface, khadi has today evolved as a cool couture.

It is celebrated on fashion ramps worldwide and in the country's leading pret lifestyle stores. Cool in summer and warm in winter, this versatile all-weather fabric can be woven as a beautiful shawl or to a fine count.

Fabindia presents fashion statements in khadi at its `Expressions in Khadi' an exhibition-cum-sale which opens today.

Specially woven to a fine count on the amber charkha for the city's year long summer, the made-ups have been designed by in-house Fabindia designers. Dyed in every shade from subtle earth to vibrant hues, the well-styled kurtis, salwar kurta ensembles, wraparounds, dupattas and stoles are impressive.

The block-printed khadi ensembles are just right for every season and every occasion, be it party, college, office or everyday wear. Delicate leheriyas, smart stripes, amris, Mughal floral motis and zigzags comprise the collection. Melding of colours in geometric configurations will suit contemporary tastes.

The young can choose from a range of snazzy capris, colourful shirts and kurtas with a touch of embroidery and mirror work.

The exhibition at Fabindia, Ilford House, 3, Woods Road, Anna Salai, will conclude on August 10.
