Hence, the wardrobe needs to be full of latest fabrics, designs and colours. The latest fad is the novel necklines prevailing in the world of fashion.
Creating fashion is an art. It brings forth the ability of a designer to convert a fabric into a finished garment, with his creativity and sense of colour combination, to suit different occasions. Of late, besides styling new cuts, shapes and colour combinations, the designers have been emphasising greatly on necklines that enhance the wearer's personality.
Whether it is saris, salwar suits, dupattas, bridal wear, lehnga choli or the fusion line of capris teamed with short kurtas, if embellished with zardozi, laces, crystals and antique metal necklines and buttons, it can add not only elegance but also an expensive look and extra zing to a couture.
`New Ladies Corner' situated at Orient Estate, Abids, is one such store which is retailing the newest ever necklines in antique metals as well as zardozi and crystal laces. These motifs, laces and metallic necklines bring a whiff of fresh air, innovative yet practical. Intense, classic, festive and feminine but never over the top - these new designs make their debut this year as an ultimate ode to feminine grace.
Embellishment is an integral to the Indian drape tradition. Says Sunil K. Chedda of New Ladies Corner, "Strategically placed embroidery, laces or motifs work wonders in creating or highlighting a silhouette and the cuts. With a lot of emphasis being given to necklines, laces, motifs and crystals are in great demand."
Most of his laces are floral motifs that feature in the looms of Benaras or the paisley motifs that are predominant in the bel and bootas of Jamevar.
These laces and necklines are priced between Rs. 150 to Rs. 300 per metre while the metallic sets, which are detachable, are priced at Rs. 300 and above. Most of these laces have a lot of sequins, pearls, crystals and jewel-coloured stones.
As minimalism is highlighted, the use of lace, buttons and motifs is to enhance the beauty of the garment rather than overloading it.
Lace is used in zardosi for a unique look.
The laces are greatly in demand for capris, sarongs, pencil skirts, long-vent tunics as well as ankle-length column skirts.
The current look is inspired by men's tailoring and is smart and simple with a touch of feminine lines using silk cord, Swarovski crystals and Chinese ball buttons which are all available at the store.
Mul magic
MUL, WHICH was once considered to be an exclusive fabric meant for the royalty, ceases to be just that. With the luxury of Lucknowi chikan work, mul has become the most sought-after fabric for all occasions, in the modern era - casual, formal, eveningwear, for parties and even as bridal wear.
Today, chikan work has acquired a new profile having blended well with georgettes and synthetics. It has become a hot favourite with popular Indian designers like Abu Jani and Muzaffar Ali.
Back home, Nafees Ansari of `Lucknowi Libaas' has been retailing exclusive chikan wear. An exhibition of her latest collection will be held from March 21 to March 25 at the Gallerie Raphael, Amrutha Mall in Somajiguda.
This will be followed by a sale at her own boutique, Lucknowi Libaas, near Our Place restaurant located on Road No. 10, Banjara Hills.
You can choose from a range of cholis, dress materials, slim line kurtas and saris. Besides these, there is an elaborate collection of Narayanpet dress materials, saris and blouses.
