simply said, a good 95% of games nowdays favour flashy graphics over game depth and diversity. i have trouble finding a game that i can play through to the finish and think 'wow, that was great fun'. It seems that i will get halfway through and think 'it was fun for a while, now its getting repetitive' and i will look for something else to play.

The beauty of the pc of course is that being open architecture you can still use an xbox 360 controller on the pc if desired. Bring this out on pc now god damn it, i dont want to play it on 360 even though i have one i want to use a keyboard and mouse. oh yeah and dont give us some stupid cheap port either those things are killing pc gaming and poor pc games support = poor hardware sales = less windows 7 sales etc as was previously mentioned by someone in an earlier post.

I have all three consoles and a pc i much prefer to game on my pc i work with pcs and ive been building/gaming on them since i was young but i also enjoy certain games on the 360 depends on the player.

That said there is something wrong if your old enough to remember old school games and not think gaming today is being dumbed down gameplay wise and scrubbed over with flashy graphics. Look at the clancy games GR or RS not vegas or advanced warfighter tripe. JJB03 modern games are not that creative they are flashy i prefer old RPG's compared with newer ones with the exception of bioware games look at oblivion the game is useles when compared with morrowind hell you can completely break the game gameplay wise in oblivion by just not leveling up your character.

These days there is to much of this regenerating health and level scaling abilities for creatures and such and im afraid that came with the new console generation you took a few hits in the old rainbow six you died you didnt duck behind cover and wait for your health to regenerate.

As for alan wake i never believed the hype for the game and have had no intention of playing it since day one but i find it a pretty cheap shot after this many years to say the pc version is cancelled when that is the platform the development team first stated the title for.

  • Vargre666

    Posted Feb 16, 2010 4:38 pm PT

Well said Taffelost. Couldnt agree with you more. Thank the gods there are still companies like Red Projekt (The Witcher) and Bioware. (I know, Bioware has made some ports, but on the whole, their games are top knotch.) And lets not forget Bethesda. Oblivion was so much better on PC than Xbox, same with Fallout. There is no comparison to be made between consoles and PC's. As you said, a PC will win out EVERY SINGLE TIME. Next time someone decides to play a shooter, see which works better; an xbox joystick or a mouse and keyboard. And there is no way in hell the PC gaming industry is going to die any time soon. Thats just foolish talk.

No Basher we don't assume you're immature because you don't like PC gaming. Trust me it's all based on your pubertal agressive rhetoric. It's also funny how you state PC gamers as having a chip on their shoulder while at the same time you're too mature and successful in real life to play games anymore, contrary to us nerds without any real life. I'm however curious what it is exactly you don't like about PC gaming? There's nothing a console can do that a PC can't do better. This is an undisputed fact I think everybody can agree on. So what is it? The price? Do you find PC's hard to use? Would be interesting to hear why you don't like the PC as a gaming platform.

As to wheather consoles are dumbing down games to better suit the mainstream market you have plenty of examples. Examples like the Rainbow Six series, Operation Flashpoint, Need for Speed series and many, many more. Sad thing is that most new games are made for the mainstream console mass market, then often ported to the PC. I'm sure you can connect the dots. I don't want to come off as a snob, I really don't, but there's plenty reasons I prefer the PC over consoles. If that makes me a snob so be it.

this better have a really good story and why has it taken like almost a decade to actually come out and @WildZeppelin i do not understand why you think the industry is dumbing down gaming because from what i can see its far from that just think of the people who slave over making games we see today the time money and creative people have put in to them now is unreal surely you would rather play the games you just mentioned out of nostalgia which is something all do from time to time

    @Bashers79
You're missing the big point here. If the PC gaming industry dies out, SO WILL THE CONSOLES! Seriously! To be able to create a game at all, you'd need a PC with an engine. As long as games are made on the pc (which they will be) the PC gaming industry will NOT die out. Also, you can't deny the success of Blizzard. They probably make the most money out of their games compared to the console exclusive companies (mostly from WoW). So in my opinion, if you're so tied to your console, you better pray that PC gaming doesn't die anytime soon.

This is the way I see it, and sorry for adding my two cents. I've been playing computer games since the Apple 2E in the early 80s. Had a Nintendo and Atari 2600, 386SX16 in the 90s. I've seen the evolution of systems and games. All that seems to be getting better is the graphics, because PC or consoles are sorely hurting for those who have played games like X-Com, Daggerfall, Darklands, Space Quest, or even the original Doom! I'd like for them to go back to these style games because they were so far deeper than anything in comparison to day. PC and Console gaming -IS- dumbed down so bad it's hard to even want to play these days.

Im pretty sure the xbox (running custom ibm processors, 3 symmetrical cores running at 3.2 GHz each,Custom ATI Processor, at 500 MHz) and the ps3 (Cell Processor with 7 SPEs, at 3.2 GHz,Custom NVidia Processor called RSX “Reality Synthesizer”, at 550 MHz) are basically beefy PCs. I dont know why there are fanboys that cry and wine and boast about whichever they love to use. I mean...shouldnt we just be mad at the companies making a mint off of "exclusives", or adding free content to some but not all gaming systems, releasing games later on some consols. Why are there always people on these forums that argue over which is better. All consoles(wii is kinda different right now, and cant be compared, until sony and microsoft jump into the realm of "active" gaming in my opinion) have pretty nice setups, PC included (yes you have to build your PC out yourself...but isnt that kind of the fun part of being a PC owner...) I was looking forward to this game and was teased by seeing this vid on the PC section. I enjoy PC gaming but thats because i work with computers and am very comfortable with them....i also loved playing Halo on the old school xbox back in the day, and gran turismo....cant wait to play that on the ps3.
The point is....the huge companies monopolizing on fan boys are the real problem... not which system you enjoy playing on.

@lee0577 You'll be pleased to know that I'm very much not the future of gaming, I seem to have very little time for games these days, you'll find this out when you reach adulthood and start a family. I love the way you lot assume that just because I don't like PC gaming anymore that some how that makes me purile and immature. I'll use mmidgers for my stereotype of a PC gamer shall I, his comment sums it up nicely.
@mmidgers controllers to? just that I better save room for my PS3. Yes, I have a chip on my shoulder about PC gamers, but it comes from being fed up of reading the dribble PC gamers come out with about console gaming. No, console gaming isn't dumbing down the industry and no, no one. cares you're boycotting this game because you won't be able to buy it for your PC anyway.

Bashers79 your attitude sums up the console gaming stereotype perfectly, purile, immature and uneducated. If your the future of gaming then god help ALL platforms and games in general.

  • Taffelost

    Posted Feb 16, 2010 2:56 am PT

Basher79 you're obviously not looking for an intelligent discussion, but I'll humour you. Gaming has become mainstream today mainly due to consoles, granted, but that doesn't mean there weren't great games before the X-box and PS era. Stating that the Nintendo in it's time paved the way for modern gaming whereas the PC only contributed to FPS and RTS games tells me you have no clue about the history of games. The PC as a platform has been a main innovator for as long as it's been around and I can't see that change for a long time.

What is this modern gaming you're talking about by the way? If that's simplified, arcadish and mainstreamed gaming suited to earn as much as possible no matter the artistic cost, well then you can have it. The trend with simplified, dumbed down gaming is the reason I'm a pc gamer. I don't find the mainstreaming of my hobby as a wanted 'progression'.

You can try to degrade people by saying they have no life whereas you are successfull in real life, but that doesn't take away the fact that some of us like to be in control of, both our virtual as well as our real life. I'm a PC gamer because I like the added possibilites it gives me. The PC as a platform gives you lightyears more freedom than any console combined does. Does that make consoles bad? Maybe for me, but not for the mainstream market.

I've been hearing about the impending doom of PC-gaming for 20-25 years now. When is it going to happen exactly?

  • lee0577

    Posted Feb 16, 2010 2:53 am PT

@Basher im afraid you hit no nail, you just came across as stupid and immature so i replied. Gamming is my hobby and i choose to spend alot of money on a powerful PC however thats not to say i couldnt put together a PC for about the price of a PS3 and it would still be more powerful. Do people actually still use that argument of price with PCs? About 5 years ago that may of been true but come on get up to speed man. I played bioshock 2 the other day on my PC and quite frankly thought the graphics were embarrassing with everything maxed. Now im not saying that bioshock is a poor game or that graphics make a game but this ancient engine is still in use because its all the console can manage without running like a slideshow. This is another thing thats happening because of old technology in consoles and their awful ports. As for ME2 that was an example, there are many companies that do DLC now and this is because console fools will pay it and its a well known fact. Anyway have not got time to argue any more with you over which is better i have a spreadsheet to prepare, download some files, do a video conference call then if i get time i may watch a bluray movie. As for tonight im planning on playing some DIRT 2 in direct X 11 with my massive 3 screen eye finity setup in full HD all on my lovely 5970. Maybe then play some intelligent games like EVE or load up crysis and gawp at its sheer awesomness

HAHAHA I obviously hit the nail on the head judging by the amount of PC gamers who stopped jerking off over there female elf WoW characters so they could protest at my opinion. @montana1990 yes console gaming is for kids, but its also for adults, same with PC gaming. I'm glad you can MSN your friends till 23:30 on your laptop, I prefer to see mine in person, its called having a real life and not a virtual one. @lee0577 I'm well aware PC gaming contributed lots to the FPS and RTS gaming genre, I've been playing games since the Spectrum 48k era. I was there when all the PC was good for was FPS like Quake and flight sims, whilst the Master system and Nintendo were paving the way for modern gaming. As for paying extra money for shiny red suits in ME2, erm they were free. In the UK ME2 was priced the same as any new release and the DLC came with it free, if you paid extra then you got mugged. Even if it did come at an extra cost it wouldnt matter, I work hard at my job and get payed well, so I can afford it. You would to if you didn't have to keep splashing out on new hardware for your already out of date PC.

  • lee0577

    Posted Feb 15, 2010 11:51 pm PT

@ Bashers79 for your information console gaming wouldnt be where it is today if it was not for the PC driving newer and more realistic graphics through the years. The PC has also been around happily for decades before your pathetic xbox and ps3 childrens playthings and will be here long after they have gone. Its idiots like you that makes gaming companies think they can charge people extra money for a set of bright red armour like in ME2 when it should be free. Then again your parents pay for it so thats propably why your not bothered.

Bashers79, the only fact is that consoles are for little kids to play games,
Console:1) play some ultra nice exclusive games
PC:1) Play rare ultra nice exclusive games,2)play ultra nice games( thats is if your pc doesn't suck hard) while you make a Voip Call to friends or just msn them,3) finnaly after playing the game and see that its alredy 23:30 and you suddently found out that you have to make a Work about how Does Hydrolisis Works soo the Prf from University wouldn't kick ya.
    4) I have a Laptop that I can take anywere and play nice games anywere( Xbox360 and PS3 would be great to have the function Portability(Like Psp))

Moral: Xbox Playstation arent the domination on gaming... Xbox, Playstation and PC are.. at anytime.

P.S: Sorry for gramar, I'm a Portuguese idiot that can't just learn right the English gramatic.

    Posted Feb 15, 2010 9:04 am PT

Microsoft just needed a "true" exclusive on the 1Q roster for the 360. PS3 has Mod Nation Racers (Little Big KART lol), God of War 3, Heavy Rain, MAG, Last Guardian, the REAL Final Fantasy XIII all in the 1Q alone...Microsoft didn't want the 360 to be upstaged so they killed off the PC version in fear that more people were lookin forward to the PC version than the 360. PS3 has momentum from Uncharted 2 takin GOTY by a landslide...360 NEEDS Alan Wake to be exclusive. GoW3 and Halo Reach are too far away.

I'm glad I ditched PC gaming years ago. For me PC gaming equals to much baggage. Not sure why all you PC gamers are hating on console gamers, face it, the people who buy console games are in large keeping the gaming industry alive. If all of a sudden console gaming came to an end the industry would most likely collapse and there'd be no money to make your RTS and on-line RPG's. Thumb me down all you like PC users, but someday your going to have to face facts, console gaming is the dominant force and its here to stay.

Don't forget that Mass Effect was an XBox 360 "exclusive" and then later came out on PC. So was Gears of War, but that was released on the PC with an additional level. I imagine this will be the same. They just don't want people to know that it will eventually be coming out on PC anyway. I could be wrong but I'd say don't rule out a PC version within a year of the XBox 360 release.
