The NewsMarket is a global online video platform. Co-founded by Chairman Shoba Purushothaman[1] and Anthony Hayward in New York City in 2000, The NewsMarket is used by its customers to communicate to the TV and online media and bloggers and directly to consumers through video.

The company combines a video distribution platform and an embeddable, web-based streaming video player[2] to support the marketing efforts of leading global brands,[opinion needs balancing] governments and non-governmental organizations including Google[3], NATO, Panasonic, UNICEF, adidas[4], Intel, [5] IBM[6], Rolls-Royce[7], and Roche[8].

The NewsMarket site is used by more than 25,000 media outlets in over 190 countries[9] to access, preview and order free broadcast-quality video and other multimedia content for use in their programming.

The company’s investors include Apax Partners,[10] Battery Ventures, Hearst Interactive Media,[11] and Softbank Capital.[12] The NewsMarket has offices in Ahmedabad, Beijing, London, New York, Mumbai and San Francisco.[13]

Since 2002, The NewsMarket has utilized Qwest for its hosting space.[14]

In June 2008, The NewsMarket teamed with Akamai to content to the media ahead of the Beijing Olympics.[15]

In December 2008, The NewsMarket introduced it's online auto show product. The service enables car companies to conduct live press conferences and unveil their cars to the world's consumers, media and blogs online.[16]

In March 2009, Jim Lonergan was appointed President and CEO[17] and they partnered with Stream57 to broadcast all press conferences and unveilings at the Geneva Motor Show live and available for on-demand viewing.[9] They also launched a custom video production platform for PR and marketing professionals with StudioNow.[18]

In July 2009, The NewsMarket announced that it would acquire Medialink Worldwide. The deal was completed in September 2009.[19] This combines The NewsMarket’s digital video distribution platform with Medialink’s professional services and production capabilities to create a complete video solution.[20][21]
