[edit] History

Launched in October 2009, SEGAPoker is one of the first two SEGA-branded online gaming sites launched by the wholly-owned subsidiary of SEGA Corporation, SEGA Games Ltd. SEGAPoker holds its license with the Alderney Gambling Control Commission[1] and is regulated by the Government of Alderney. [2]

The public had started speculating on the possibility that a new set of online products were in the works early into September of 2009. The move signals the gaming company's venture into the online gambling sector. With poker's ascent into the mainstream gambling scene, largely due to the World Series of Poker (WSOP) and various televised poker tournaments [3], SEGA recognised the benefits of merging the brand with the game. The company believes that the internet is the perfect place to learn, practice and make the leap from playing poker for fun to playing for real money.

In 2008, SEGA Games Ltd. teamed up with Playtech[4], one of the most reliable gaming software developers[5], in designing and developing online casino products.

SEGAPoker, together with SEGACasino, was launched on the 2nd week of October 2009.

[edit] Games Offered

There are four types of poker games available on the site: Texas hold'em, Omaha hold'em, Five-card stud and Seven-Card Stud in a live playing environment with rooms that offer multiplayer play modes: head-to-head and tournaments. Games can accommodate more than 30,000 concurrent players.

The online poker site also provides new users with information on each poker game available and tips on how to play and increase the odds of winning.

SEGAPoker is reported to be available in most European countries and other countries where online gambling is fully regulated.

Main competitors are pokerstars, bodog and party poker.
