[edit] History

Launched in October 2009, SEGACasino is one of the first two SEGA-branded online gaming sites launched by the wholly-owned subsidiary of Sega Corporation, SEGA Games Ltd. SEGACasino holds its license with the Alderney Gambling Control Commission[1] and is regulated by the Government of Alderney.[2]

Alongside the speculations surrounding the existence of SEGAPoker, SEGA spiced up the gaming company's venture into the online gambling sector by including the casino format, otherwise known as SEGACasino. In 2008, SEGA Games Ltd. teamed up with Playtech[3], one of the most reliable gaming software developer[4], in designing and developing this online casino.

Critics have said that building on the existing brand recognition and large cache of memorable characters of the gaming company gives Sega Games Ltd. an advantage over more generic sites.[5] It's also been reported that the gaming company is looking into producing games incorporating popular game characters like Sonic the Hedgehog and Earthworm Jim. The segacasino.com domain is reported to have been registered several years ago and is speculated to have been originally used as a promotional site for the Sega casino game on the Nintendo DS.[6]

SEGACasino was launched simultaneously with Sega's online poker site on the 2nd week of October 2009.

[edit] Games Offered

SEGACasino offers various popular casino games like Blackjack, Roulette, Craps, Baccarat, and Slots to name a few. They have a total of 125 games on their inventory to cater to varying game preferences. Games are classified into eight game types: Live, Table, Slot, Video Poker, Arcade, Progressive, Asian and SEGA Games.

The software showcases a completely new graphic package to match the SEGA brand as well as many of SEGA’s IP including Virtua Fighter™, House of the Dead™ and Nights™.

SEGACasino is available in most European countries and other countries where online gambling is fully regulated.
