Category:Orphan initialisms
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
An orphan initialism is an initialism that referred to a fully spelled-out name in the past, but (at least officially) it no longer does. For example, AOL once stood for America Online, but now the name is simply "AOL". These are sometimes referred to as orphan acronyms or empty initialisms.
