Wii Rule (Again)

Looks like many people are getting their holiday shopping done early.

In October, Nintendo sold over 800,000 of its little white consoles in the U.S.–more than the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, and PlayStation 2 combined,  according to NPD Group.

Nintendo’s DS handheld came in second, with nearly 500,000 units sold – more than twice the 193,000 Sony PSPs sold.

Microsoft’s Xbox 360 came in a distant third with 371,000 units sold, which is still more than twice that of Sony’s PlayStation 3, with only 190,000 units sold.

Things looked brighter for Microsoft and Sony on the software front, though, with seven Xbox 360 and PS3 games in the Top 10 best-selling games for October.

The biggest seller was the Xbox 360 exclusive Fable II, with nearly 800,000 copies sold. PS3 exclusives SOCOM: U.S.Navy Seals Confrontation and LittleBigPlanet sold well too, with 231,000 and 215,000 copies sold, respectively.

The remaining three games in the Top 10 were Wii titles: Wii Fit, Mario Kart Wii, and Wii Play. No DS or PSP titles were in the Top 10.

Although Nintendo fell behind in U.S.software sales for the month of October, it still came out on top in worldwide software sales for the third quarter, with every game on the Top 5 available on Nintendo platforms.
