PSP Screens Bring Complaints

Sony's next-generation PSP-3000 handheld has already sparked criticism from users.

The updated PSP, which launched October 14 in North America, introduced a brighter screen, a built-in microphone, and some cosmetic changes.

The screen is where the problem lies. While the PSP-3000 fixes the “ghosting,” or double image, an issue on the previous version, it now faces problems with scan lines and jagged edges.

Apparently, this occurs due to improvements to the LCD response time.

Sony told gaming blog Joystiq in a statement that the problem is a result of trying to alleviate the ghosting found in PSP-2000s.

The difference, though clearly visible, has found mixed feedback from gamers, with some outraged at the update while others claim that it didn’t bother them.

The company said that, despite the complaints, it has no plans for fixing this issue, according to its statement to Joystiq.

Sony did not reply to requests for comment.
