IBM Debuts iNotes in Apple's App Store

Add IBM to the list of developers hawking their wares in Apple’s App Store.

Big Blue on Tuesday said iNotes, a piece of free software that allows iPhone users to work in Lotus Notes, is now available for download at the App Store.

The move is the latest blending of technologies from traditional IT firms and handset makers in an effort to satisfy demand in what many see as the next big mobile market–businesses.

“Business users are demanding access to mail, contact information, and database applications. And we are not going to supply phones, so we are partnering heavily with a wide spectrum of handset makers and carriers,” said John Dunderdale, IBM’s vice president of Lotus worldwide sales.

IBM’s iNotes offers users the option of using a virtual private network for added security.
