Sending Us Your Fan Art & Letters:
What You Need to Know

One of the coolest things about manga is drawing your favorite characters or writing letters to the editors of your favorite books. And one of the coolest things about being in the manga biz is that we get to receive lots of those pics and letters from budding artists and dedicated readers like you! And, further, from time to time, we may even decide to use some of that material in our books, DVDs, Manga magazine, and even on our Web site.

In that spirit, here's some info you should know for the next time you think about sending us some of your stuff:

1. Fan art and letters may be submitted by regular mail or e-mail, but we'd rather receive art via regular mail. If you submit fan art via e-mail, we may ask you to complete, sign, and mail us a release form.

Here's where to send your stuff:

Via e-mail: fancontent@tokyopop.com.

Via regular mail:

TOKYOPOP
attn: Department of Fan Art & Letters
5900 Wilshire Blvd.
Suite 2000
Los Angeles, CA 90036

2. Fan art may be submitted in black and white or in color, but color fan art may be rendered in black and white in books at our discretion. If sent by regular mail, all fan art must be no larger than 8.5" by 11", and if sent by e-mail, your art should be sent in JPEG or GIF format at a resolution of 150 to 300 DPI and with a file size not greater than 2 MB.

3. You can send us either originals or photocopies by regular mail. IMPORTANT SAFETY TIP: NO SUBMISSIONS WILL BE RETURNED TO YOU. This means that you will not get back anything you send to us, so think twice before you send us the original of that Kodocha drawing you slaved over for hours.

4. For e-mail submissions, include your name, your age, and your address, and include your first name_last name in the name of any file you attach. SPECIAL NOTE: Our e-mail servers scan for viruses, so we may not receive your attachment if our server thinks it's infected. That's one reason we prefer to receive art submissions by regular mail.

5. For regular mail submissions, clearly print your name, your age, and your complete address on the back of each page you send.

6. If you'd like, you can include a "pen-name" or nickname...but you still MUST give us your real earthly name, too.

7. Anything you send to us becomes the property of TOKYOPOP Inc. and, as we said before, it will not be returned to you. We will have the right to print, reproduce, distribute, or modify the artwork for use in any of our products, on our Web site, and in our publicity and promotional materials, royalty-free and forever.

8. If you are under 18, we will need a written parental permission in order to use your submission. If you submit by e-mail, we will send you a form for your parent to complete and mail to us. If you submit by regular mail, you can cut out a step by having your parent sign and date the permission on the back of your submission. The permission can be a very simple statement like: "I am Kate's parent. I have read and agreed to the terms of TOKYOPOP's fan submission policy posted at www.TOKYOPOP.com." Please remember that the permission must be on the back of your submission and signed and dated.

9. We will have the right to print your name, city, and state if we include all or any part of your submission in any of our products.

10. And, last but not least...you acknowledge that all material you send to us is your original creation and does not violate the rights of others. (In other words, it's OK to send us art based on CLAMP's manga, but only if YOU are the artist and NOT if you ripped it off from your little sister or former best friend.)
