In 1965 engineer Hilber designed the speedrecord
machine for Kreidler.
In october of that year the Kreidler team traveled
to the desert of Utah,
to try to break the worldspeedrecord 50cc.
The basic design of the shape of this Kreidler
was done by
the Italian Vaifro Meo so the machine was
called 'Kreidler-Meo'.
It was further 'streamlined' in the windtunnel
of Stuttgard University.

by the camera on the saltflats in Utah in 1965
with a speed of approx. 200 kmph! |

The first time they lifted
the Kreidler out of the truck!
They were determined to break the old record
of Volker Kramer with a Zundapp
(Spring 1965, 153.492 km/h).
The dimensions of this machine:
Length : 320(!)cm
Height : 75 cm
Width : 52 cm
Performance : 15 bhp @ 15000 rpm |

Although Rudolph Kunz was
a very small and very light man,
he just fitted into the machine!
You can see the side-supports they had
to mount because it was not possible
to keep balance at low speed! |

23 october 1965, after days
of testing and improving
the Kreidler team broke
the Worldspeedrecord 50 cc:
A maximum speed of :225.342 km/h
And an average record speed :210.634 km/h
!
CONGRATULATIONS KREIDLER! |
A view on the engine, cooled by ice-water.
You can see the belt-driven compressor.
Actually when they did not succeed in breaking the record
at first, they decided to ride without the ice, the
engine was just TOO cold! |
|
In 1977 rider Henk van
Kessel broke the record:
Location: New highway A50 (not being used yet) near Apeldoorn, Netherlands
Machine designed by Piet Plompen, Kreidler engine.
It did have a Kreidler engine, 21 bhp at 16.600 rpm.
Worldrecord: 50 cc flying start - average speed: 221,586 km/h.
(One way 213 km/h, return 228 km/h)

|
In 1981 rider Jan Huberts
also tried to break the record:
Aug 3rd & 4th, 1981, they broke the record with this Kreidler powered Casal Plompen
bike,
on a new, not open yet, piece of highway (A6 Lelystad) in Holland.
The new record : 222,026 km/h !!
That is 138 miles/hour on a 50cc bike!!
