Joe Roy gathers intelligence on extremist activities, assists the U.S. Justice Department and other law enforcement agencies in criminal investigations involving extremist organizations and trains law enforcement and community groups on the threat of domestic terrorism. He serves as an instructor for the Federal Law Enforcement Training Center’s Hate/Bias Crimes Training course and is a certified instructor for the California POST Robert Presley Institute for Criminal Investigation. Before joining the SPLC in 1986, Roy served for seven years in the Montgomery (Ala.) Police Department, in the Intelligence Unit and the Robbery/Homicide Division.
