Using TMS to Drive Transportation Costs Down
Over the past year, many transportation departments were still "dialing for diesels" or feeding forms into a fax machine as they were attempting to keep IT investment in check. In this session, our panel of analysts will share case study examples of shippers who made the transition and saved anywhere from 5 percent to 25 percent (or more) on their transportation costs. The panel predicts that the days of high fuel prices and tight capacity will certainly return, and shippers that transform their transportation management processes today will be in the best position when the economy recovers.

Procurement Technology as a Critical Enabler of Cost Cutting
So much time and money is wasted in the manual processing of those activities associated with buying goods and services. Much of this work can be automated - with attendant increases in accuracy, greater customer satisfaction, and most importantly, huge reductions in costs. In this hands-on session, attendees will learn from the experts how to gain senior management attention, how to build a comprehensive business case that includes technology enablers, and how to identify which of their procurement activities are best suited for automation.

Voice technology's role in streamlining logistics and transportation
Over the last five years, voice technology went from "bleeding edge" to "leading edge" to ultimately joining the ranks of other affordable, reliable technologies for use in picking operations. Voice-directed picking has proven time and again that it can help companies make significant strides in productivity, picking accuracy, and safety improvement inside the four walls of the warehouse/DC. In this session, our panel will discuss how the technology has evolved, how it works, and how the application of voice can ultimately trickle down to help streamline transportation and overall supply chain operations.

Managing Global Sourcing: A True Total Cost Approach
When sourcing finished goods or components from overseas, companies typically pay a lot of attention to the manufacturing and labor costs. So much so, that they often overlook other key cost components-a main one being transportation. Our panel of global trade specialists will explain how to make the smart transportation and logistics choices that enable you to source in the most advantageous location for your products and markets. The benefit: A more competitive product and a better bottom line.

Putting 3PLs to work to streamline transportation and warehousing
Third-party logistics providers (3PLs) continue to play a critical role in streamlining logistics management as the recession cuts away at company profits. Today, as more shippers look to automate transportation processes, optimize distribution networks, and simplify complicated customs clearance, 3PLs are uniquely positioned to help shippers capture cost saving improvements. In this session, our panel will define the benefits a 3PL can offer and then share specific case study examples of how shippers have built long-term 3PL relationships that helped them to weather the economic storm.

Technology Advances that Can Improve Your Supply Chain
Many supply chain managers have been pre-occupied lately, focused more on what can be done to improve the bottom line "today" rather than preparing their supply chain for the inevitable upturn to come. For this reason, they have found it hard to stay up to date on the technology advances that will greatly impact tomorrow's supply chain operations. This session - presented by one of the country's top supply chain analysts - will define these technologies and show how they can be applied to improve supply chain efficiency.

Some of the hot technologies and trends we'll be examining:
  • Service Oriented Architecture (SOA)

  • Software as a Service

  • Anytime, Anywhere Availability (AAA)

  • Web 2.0

  • New Business Intelligence Tools

  • Mobile Devices

  • ERP's Expanding Supply Chain Role
