Racism is a serious problem in America. Fueled by immigration fears, the economic crisis and the election of a black president, racist hate groups increased their numbers again in 2008. The Southern Poverty Law Center has documented a staggering 926 hate groups operating in our country — a more than 50% increase since 2000.

Hate group leaders are exploiting the difficult economic times to swell their ranks, and their anti-Semitic, white supremacist propaganda is promoting violence. A neo-Nazi leader was quoted in USA Today saying, "When the economy suffers, people are looking for answers. ...We are the answer for white people."

As the ranks of hate swell, people of goodwill must stand up and be counted. Please add yourself to our interactive map as a voice for tolerance — and find out which hate groups are active in your area.

At the Southern Poverty Law Center, we not only track and expose the activities of racist extremists — we have a proven history of using innovative legal strategies to put them out of business. We recently won a $2.5 million verdict against the leader of the Imperial Klans of America for the brutal beating of a teenage boy of Latino descent in Kentucky.

Join us and the thousands of others across the country who are standing strong against the hate, racism and intolerance infecting our communities, schools and political debate by adding yourself to our map.

Thank you for standing strong against hate.
